This scene captures one of the annual fall cattle drives on the Allran Ranch in Hooten Wells, Nevada. Model Tim Spellman and I were regular cowboys on the drive. Hooten Wells was originally a Pony Express stop in the high desert. The Pony Express was a mail delivery system that operated from 1860 to 1861 over a distance of 1,800 miles (2,900 km) between St. Joseph, Missouri, and Sacramento, California, using continuous relays of horse riders.

In the photo, Tim is taking a break and enjoying a plate of beans for lunch. The rock pile behind him is the old pump house over the well. The horse in the corral is my mare Whiskey, and the saddle and bedroll to the right is my gear.
