This scene occurred just past Fort Churchill, Nevada during one of the Allran Ranch cattle drives. The rider on the hill is Jim Craddock, and he was leading the cattle towards the holding pens at the railhead in Weeks, Nevada. The cattle would be fed, rested and were to be put up there for the night.

I was positioned to turn the cattle down the railroad tracks when they hit a powdery knoll, and the herd appeared to disappear in a cloud of dust.
