On a freezing cold morning in January, the Callahan Ranch was conducting a cattle roundup near Reno, crossing the Steamboat Hot Springs. The hot springs are situated at the bottom of Mount Rose, and the terrain is a series of crevices that emit hot steam and water. Even though the steam was boiling, the bright light of the cold Nevada morning made it freeze four inches off the ground, creating a surreal and eerie scene. The painting of "Hell Freezes Over" portrays this incredible moment. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did painting it.
